Helping “to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matt. 9:38
A recap of our 2011 missions trips:
Thailand – Two 50 gallon water tanks were provided to a children’s home in Chiangmai, and a western-type toilet and two slightly smaller water tanks were installed in Omkoi village.
Our medical team conducted 8 clinics and treated over 600 patients among the minority groups such as the Aka, Hmong, Karen and LaHu peoples. Bibles and teaching materials were given to church leaders and to a Buddhist monk in charge of a monastery where we held a clinic.
Moreover, leftover medicine from the medical camps was carried to 5 unreached ethnic groups near the border of Myanmar and Thailand, an area where unofficial military conflicts are taking place.
Philippines – BGN distributed relief goods to 664 families, victims of devastating typhoons on Mindoro Island. Medical, dental, optical and laboratory testing (monitoring blood sugar counts and blood typing) services were provided by two teams to 3,100 poor patients at 11 medical camps. We were also able to provide financial assistance to 6 patients who needed hospital care or testing (for vehicular accident, stomach problems, kidney, hernia, slipped discs and facial surgery).
China – Conducted lay leadership training in the western region of Yunnan province for 97 people from three ethnic groups – Lisu, Tibetans and Naxi peoples. The Religious Affairs Bureau, the Chinese government’s agency, has knowledge of and approved this teaching activity. We were invited to return next year to do more teaching and training.
Tibet – BGN provided $1,200 to finance an emergency surgery for the wife of one of our evangelists. She had an ectopic pregnancy (with twins) and the operation was vital to save her life. Moreover, 7 Tibetan lay leaders had the opportunity to participate in leadership training in Yunnan province.
India – God blessed our mission trip to North and South India with the baptism of 70 people, and 8 opportunities for preaching and storytelling to 2 groups of children in the slum areas in Punjab province. We also conducted 60 medical camps that served over 14,500 patients. In addition, we helped distribute 200 school uniforms and backpacks provided by International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) to school children and participated in the feeding programs for the indigent, also sponsored by IDES. Praise the Lord.
Pakistan – The official report in Pakistan stated that 8 million people were affected by the flood and 1.5 million houses were destroyed in 2011. Torrential rains fell in the districts where the poorest of the poor live. Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced.
More than 50% of the population in Sindh Province live in mud houses; 35 % live in one-room houses. The average family size is 9 persons. Some 3,800 poor people who lived in 8 districts and towns were blessed through the eye clinics, medical camps and distribution of food. The people most affected in Sindh and who received relief goods were the Hindus (65 %), Christians (20%) and Muslims (15%). Six “untouchable” Hindus expressed their desire to accept Jesus as their Lord and their Savior.
Unfortunately, there’s still much need for food, clean water, medicine, warm blankets, mosquito nets, kitchenware and tents. Please contact Bring Good News if you wish to help address their plight.
Thailand – Pray for the completion of Sharing the Amazing Light in Thailand (SALT) Ministries so they can raise funds to construct a multi-purpose building that can accommodate 400 people for worship. This project will cost $350,000. Also pray for Joel and Marilyn Khopang of North Burma Christian Mission that they will receive healing and strength to carry on their ministry among the ethnic people in northern Thailand.
Philippines – Pray that the churches will develop a missional heart to do more evangelism in the Philippines and to send out missionaries in Asia. Pray for Dr. Titus Bantiles and his family that they can continue to expand their medical evangelism ministry in the Philippines and elsewhere in Asia.
China – Pray that Bring Good News can help to evangelize unreached minority groups and continue to bring teams to equip lay leaders for service in Yunnan province while the door is still open. Right now, the Chinese government is still allowing us to come in and support Chinese churches, but we don’t know how long this window of opportunity will last.
Tibet – Pray that our evangelists will have fortitude and strength as they face persecution and that God will bless their efforts to spread the good news of Jesus in Tibet.
India – Pray for the Christian pastors, workers and the church body for protection against persecution from extremists. Pray for continued blessings in establishing God’s kingdom in the northern and southern India. Our two partners in India want to construct additional churches in their respective areas. The construction cost is in the range of $5000 to $10,000 per church, depending on size of the congregation.
Pakistan – Pray that additional resources can be sent to meet the needs in Pakistan. Pray that the victims of the flooding in Sindh will realize that the Lord is a loving God who cares for them. Pray too for the Christians, the church leaders and their families, that they can overcome the difficulties they face daily. Furthermore, pray especially for their protection from persecution and discrimination lodged by Muslim extremists.
